A Closer Look at the Piedmont Triad
The Piedmont Triad, often simply called the Triad, is a major metropolitan region in the north-central part of North Carolina. It’s built around Greensboro, Winston Salem, and High Point; and covers a 12 county region that includes Guilford, Forsyth, and Alamance counties. The Triad is home to about 1.7 million people.
Located between the Appalachian Mountains and the Atlantic Coastal Plain, the Triad sits in a conveniently between New York and Florida, as well as between Washington, D.C., and Atlanta.
The region’s economy has come a long way from its roots in textiles, furniture, and tobacco. Today, it’s growing in areas like logistics, distribution, biotech, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing. Getting around is easy thanks to major highways like I-40, I-85, and I-77, along with Piedmont Triad International Airport.
There’s also plenty to see and do, from historic sites like Old Salem to the International Civil Rights Center & Museum, plus lots of outdoor spots for exploring and relaxing.
